Abstract

This fuel cell system is provided with: a fuel cell stack; a compressor; a cathode flow path; a bypass flow path that branches from the cathode flow path and bypasses the fuel cell stack; a bypass valve that adjusts the bypass flow rate; a stack flow sensor that detects the flow rate supplied to the stack; and a compressor flow sensor that detects the flow rate drawn into the compressor. The fuel cell system also includes a control unit which is provided with a required stack flow calculation unit that calculates the flow rate necessary for the stack according to the state of the fuel cell, and a required compressor flow calculation unit that calculates the flow rate that should be produced by the compressor to satisfy a different requirement than the abovementioned requirement. When the flow rate required from the compressor is greater than the flow rate required by the stack, the control unit controls the compressor on the basis of the flow rate required from the compressor and the flow rate at the compressor detected by the compressor flow sensor and controls the bypass valve on the basis of the flow rate required by the stack and the flow rate at the stack detected by the stack flow sensor.
